This site is tested with a wide range of different browsers to ensure correct appearance and behaviour in conformance with industry standards as far as practical. Browsers which presently operate this site satisfactorily, and generally as intended, are:
For any web site to operate correctly with IE, a myriad of workarounds must be built in and maintained to recognise and overcome IE’s idiosyncrasies. Even the release of IE Version 7 for Windows, which is claimed to be compatible with most industry standards, still does not display this site correctly! IE version 8, available in beta, may improve this situation but, quite frankly, I can’t be bothered with all the HTML and CSS coding gymnastics required to deal with IE, and I suggest users also show their disdain for Microsoft's tactics by rejecting it. Microsoft software is often described as a 'necessary evil'. However, while it may be evil, it certainly isn't necessary! Fortunately there are other free, reliable, secure and standards-compliant browsers available from reputable sources that are also far superior to Internet Explorer and avoid the need to use IE completely. Safari is an excellent browser option for Windows as well as Macintosh computers which displays and behaves perfectly for this site, and is available for download here. Firefox is another very popular browser for Windows (as well as Linux and Macintosh) computers which also correctly operates standards-compliant web sites and can be downloaded here. I commend both of these browsers to Windows users for consideration as alternatives for Internet Explorer. |
