This scene is at Tiwanaku in Bolivia (see map), a unique pre-Columbian archaeological site presently in the process of being excavated.  The site is located a little over an hour's drive from La Paz.

In the foreground are stellae in the Sunken Courtyard or Subterranean Temple, with sculptured heads visible in the courtyard wall, and with the megalithic entrance to the Kalasasaya Temple beyond.
